Cowboy Bloody MaryThis is a featured page

(From Tom Perini's Texas Cowboy Cooking)

"So called because a cowboy is never far from his horseradish. The Bloody Mary is a standard drink, but we do something a little different --- we use horseradish and we garnish with a pickled okra. This gives it kind of a unique flavor. It makes a pretty drink and the horseradish gives it an extra bite."

I like to use the generic brand of V8 and add a small portion of clamato juice, a shake or two of lemon pepper seasoning and fresh squeezed lime juice to taste.

1 jigger vodka
5 oz. tomato vegetable juice
1/2 t prepared horseradish
1 1/2 t worcestershire sauce
salt, pepper and celery salt, to taste
3-4 dashes Tabasco
1 pickled okra

Moisten rim of glass an coat in celery salt. Combine the vodka, juice and horseradish and mix well. Pour over ice. Add the worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and celery salt, to taste. Add tabasco to taste and garnish with okra.

To make by the pitcher:

2 qt pitcher
1 1/2 c vodka
48 oz tomato vegetable juice
1 small bottle clamato juice
3 T horseradish
1/2 c worcestershire sauce
salt, pepper and celery salt to taste
2 t Tabasco
10-12 pickled okra
